As mentioned in a previous newsletter, here are testimonials to the
Conversation Circle put on by SISO
Read what others have to say:
I enjoy the comfortable
environment of the English Conversation Circles. It builds my confidence; I
can make mistakes in my conversation and still feel OK.
Norma – ECC participants.
I feel lucky to be involved
in the English Conversation Circle, it has improved my English. I feel confident
to work with different Host volunteers. At the same time I like meeting people
from different countries here.
Martha – ECC participants
I think the most difficult
part of learning English is to have conversation. When we talk in English Conversation
Circles it is comfortable, the environment is open and it is very good for learning
English.
Jamie - ECC participants
I think the English Conversation
Circle is a very good place to practice English. At work and school we don’t
get a chance to practice speaking. Here we can speak to each other and with
the help of our volunteer we improve our English. Also we make friends here
and it is very important for us.
Quan - ECC participants
By attending the English
Conversation Circles I am becoming more confident because it is a comfortable
place to practice conversation. I am very shy person but here I like to speak.
Marsell - ECC participants
As a volunteer with the
SISO English Conversation Circle I am constantly inspired by working with new
Canadians. I find that refugees, immigrants and visitors bring a perspective
of Canada that many resident Canadians aren’t aware of. In particular; refugees
are often escaping dire circumstances in their country of origin and are most
appreciative of Canada’s tolerance, political freedom, and security. While facilitating
these sessions I find that newcomers participate enthusiastically as the English
Conversation Circle environment is open, warm, non-critical and informative.
Every week the dialogue changes, we discuss many topics, everything; from differing
cultural customs, job & commuting issues, food, financial matters and whatever
the group determines as interesting. We, in fact, learn from each other and
everyone is uplifted by the camaraderie built.
